Early Childhood Screening
March 23, 2010

White City Schools is hosting an Early Childhood Screening for children ages infant to 5 years old on Tuesday, March 23.  Appointments are necessary and  were to have been made by March 11.  This service is provided to enable professionals to asses a child’s growth and development in these areas:  hearing and vision, motor development, speech and language development, and cognitive skills.

Please bring the following items for your child:  birth certificate, immunization records, social security card, and health insurance information.

Huskie Thanks!

We extend a Huskie Thank You to all the parents and patrons who have participated in the “Pick a Huskie Pocket” program.  We have received several daily school supply items to help us get through the school year.  We are also fortunate to have received several donations which have helped us purchase student clothing for emergencies, laminating film, and paper for our students.  White City Schools couldn’t be in better hands than it is with our staff, parents, and patrons!  We truly appreciate all that you do to help us and our children.

Update on the
State Assessments

We have completed our State Reading Assessments and are looking forward to having the preliminary results to share with you very soon.  Once again, we have had tremendous support from our parents and P.A.W.S. members.  Students have enjoyed delicious and nutritious snacks before, during, or after their assessment sessions.  Thanks to everyone who sent goodies to school for the “Smart Snacks!”  We send a special Huskie thank you to our substitute paras who have helped us by serving as proctors for the assessments.

The State Math Assessments will be administered to students in Grades 3-8 and High School on March 30, 31, and April 1.

Lost:  One Hour of Sleep!

Fun Food & Fitness
with Dr. Seuss a Big Success!

Thanks to Mrs. Morgan and our School Health Council for planning a great evening of fun for our PreK-5th Grade students.  Students and families enjoyed everything from really green eggs and ham to a bit of exercise to proper hand washing and teeth brushing. Special thanks to our White City EMTs who helped with checking student height, weight, and blood pressure.  The children received the Dr. Seuss book, Oh, The Things You Can Do That Are Good For You! A Book All About Staying Healthy, compliments of the School Health Council,

Clip, Snip, & Save To Help Our School!

Listed below are several ways that you may be able to help our school raise funds.  Special thanks to Mrs. Rice who coordinates the Boxtops, Best Choice Labels, and Ink/Toner Cartridges programs and to Mrs. Polston who coordinates the Campbell’s Soup label campaign.

Box Tops 4 Education

More than ever our school needs extra monies for supplies and books. Let us take advantage of the Box Tops 4 Education project. Collect Box Tops from a variety of products and bring them to your school library. Each Box top is worth 10 cents. It may not seem like much, but it adds up fast. If every student in our school collected ten Boxtops, we would earn approximately $240.00.

Box Tops offers three easy ways to earn cash for our school through everyday activities such as buying groceries, shopping online, and purchasing books.

Clip - Clip Box Tops coupons from hundreds of participating products and send them to school.  Box Tops coupons are worth 10 cents each when our school redeems them from Box Tops for Education.

Shop - Shop at your favorite online stores through the Box Tops Marketplace (btfe.com/marketplace) Up to 8% of each qualified purchase is automatically donated to our school. There are no additional cost to your purchase and many exclusive deals and discounts can be found!

Buy Books - Purchase books online at Barnes & Noble through the Box Tops Reading Room. (btfe.com then look for reading room) Our school will receive 6% of your new book purchases and 3% of all other online purchases.

One of the easiest ways you can help is to sign up to support our school at btfe.com. You will learn about new and easy ways to help our school earn the extra cash it needs.

Exclusive web benefits:

1.     See how much our school is earning with Box Tops

Campbell’s Labels for Education

Pick a Huskie Pocket

P.A.W.S. is sponsoring a “Pick a Huskie Pocket” activity.  Just outside the school office door is a library pocket with a few daily school supply items needed by staff members.  If you are interested in participating in this project, stop in and pick an item from a pocket.  Attach the slip to the item, sign your name on the Donated By line and drop the item off in the office.  We will place the item in the staff member’s mailbox.  We’ve had several “Pick Pockets” already and so appreciate all that you do help us!

Order your Huskie Yearbook

A copy of the 2010 Huskie yearbook may be reserved without charge and paid for anytime between now and when the books arrive in August. The cost of the book is $30. Senior Ashley Wey won the free yearbook given away at the last home basketball games. Contact a yearbook staff member or Nancy Zirkel to order. Page sponsorships continue to be available for $25 until April 15.

A Huskie Thank You!

All of us at White City Schools extend a thank you to all the students, staff, parents, patrons, and board members who have attended the recent meetings regarding our school financial position.  We are grateful for your support, concern, and encouragement.  Special thanks to the board members and the administration for giving up several evenings of their time so that our communities and staffs could be heard.  We are truly blessed to be a community with folks who works together, who care deeply about the education of our youth, and who are willing to do whatever they can to Make a Difference for the children of our school and the betterment of our community.
