May 2008 Go Huskies! This past month we have seen many great, uplifting, and bittersweet things within our building. We celebrated our Staff Appreciation Week, sent our graduates off on a solid and positive footing, saying goodbye to valuable teachers and saying hello to new members of the Huskie Team! During Staff Appreciation Week our teachers were able to participate in several different activities. Our staff enjoyed being fruity on their Principal, by enjoying a fruit tray on their break. They were able to dress casually and comfortably all week. Finally, they were able to enjoy massages for the final two days of our staff appreciation week! I hope that every staff member was able to see how much they are appreciated and that all of us know and respect the hard work that they do everyday in the classrooms! If you see a White City Schools Staff Member, be sure to tell them how much you appreciate them! They work hard everyday to make sure we ALL make a difference in the lives of the students in the building! The last week of school was about graduating our seniors, promoting our 8th graders, and promoting our Kindergarten students. Our students work hard everyday in school! Our teachers have high expectations of our students to make sure that they rise to the challenge of “building our tradition of excellence” and the graduations and promotion activities are a time to celebrate the excellence that we achieve in our building! There are several people to recognize for their overall achievements this school year. Miss Hollis is the valedictorian and Miss Parker is the salutatorian of our senior class. It is important to recognize these two young ladies. They have worked hard their entire career in the public school system and these awards recognize their hard work! Mr. Hinkle and Miss Garner are two students in the 8th grade class that recently were awarded the KSHSAA Citizenship Award. This award is the highest honor that our White City Junior High students can be awarded. These students will certainly make magic happen throughout their high school careers! It will be exciting to watch! Finally, this year we are saying goodbye to several people within our building. Mrs. Cleveland has served as our High School Science Teacher the past two years. She is leaving us to take a teaching position closer to her hometown of Eldorado. She will be teaching HS Science for Augusta next year in pursuit of her entrance into medical school. Mr. Schierling has served as our K-12 Music Teacher the past three school years. He is leaving us to take over an Elementary Music Teaching position in Hutchinson. This position allows him to focus on one curricular area within his job. Mrs. C. Biehler has served as our Preschool Teacher the past two years and is leaving us to take over the Hope Preschool position. Mrs. D. Biehler has served as our Elementary Special Education Teacher this past year. She is leaving us to transfer to Herington where her kids will be attending school. This will be an opportunity for her work on the same schedule as her kids! We will certainly miss all of the work and effort that these people have given our school, community, and kids! As we say goodbye to staff members, we also say hello to: 1) Mr. Samla our new High School Science Teacher who comes to us from Ulysses High School. 2) Mr. Hayes our new K-12 Music Teacher who has decided to rejoin teaching after a hiatus from the world of radio. 3) Mrs. Wells our new Preschool Teacher is transferring from our 5th Grade position to the Preschool position. 4) Mrs. Kroupa our new 5th Grade Teacher ~ This is her first teaching position. Mrs. Kroupa is going to be a very energetic and amazing first year teacher! 5) Mrs. Kahnt our new Elementary Special Education Teacher who comes to us from the Troy School District. 6) Mrs. Peterson our new Kindergarten Teacher who comes to us from the Junction City district. Mrs. Peterson is taking over for Kim Stilwell who is moving to a Part-Time At-Risk position that better suits her schedule. 7) Mr. Kahnt our new High School Business Instructor who also comes to us from Troy. He is taking over for Mrs. Lawrenz who will be starting work as our new Instructional Coach for the 08-09 school year. As you meet and see these folks be sure to welcome them to the wonderful world of being a White City Huskie! Let’s ALL make sure we wish our outgoing staff well and make our new staff realize the many benefits of being in White City! Go Huskies! The school office will be open everyday between now and June 15th, but after that if you need something be sure to call before you come up! If you are in an emergency situation you may either leave a message or call me at home! As always, if you have any questions, comments, or just want to discuss something please do not hesitate to call me or come to the school to see me! |
