The first years of a child's
life are a crucial development period and children who are nurtured and
stimulated during these years are much more prepared for formal reading
and math, and more likely to have the social skills they will need when
it's time for Kindergarten. Children's experiences during early childhood not only influence their later functioning in school, but can have positive effects throughout life. The pre-school years are an optimum time for development of fundamental motor skills, language development, and other key foundational aspects of lifelong learning. Developmentally appropriate programs are based on what is known about how children develop and learn; such programs promote the development and enhance the learning of each individual child served.
